1313 CNC Gasket Cutting Machine for 10mm Rubber Gaskets

Table of Contents

Recently, we have received many foreign customers consulting about small CNC gasket cutting machines. One customer from Portugal wrote in an email to us: A small cutting machine suitable for cutting rubber with a thickness of no more than 10mm, equipped with a 1000x1000mm worktable.

On the surface, this is a very accurate and reasonable procurement requirement. However, as an engineering team with years of deep experience in the CNC flexible material cutting industry, and considering the materials he needs to cut, we did not recommend the 1000x1000mm worktable for him. Instead, we recommended our TO-1313 (1300x1300mm) CNC oscillating knife gasket cutting machine.

The following content will explain in detail why the TO-1313 CNC gasket cutting machine is the best choice for cutting 10mm rubber.

1300×1300mm CNC Gasket Cutting Machine

For small factories, proofing workshops, or enterprises only engaged in small-batch customized production, especially many enterprises with limited budgets and restricted sites, small CNC cutting machines with a 1000×1000mm (1 square meter) worktable size are very popular among them at the initial procurement stage.

But from the actual production feedback of many machines we have sold, even if you only cut palm-sized parts, you should not blindly pursue a smaller-sized CNC cutting machine. If you do so, you will gain more than you lose.

Typical Application Scenarios of Small CNC Gasket Cutting Machines

Such small CNC gasket cutting machines are usually suitable for proofing workshops, university laboratories, and small auto modification shops. They are mainly used to process thin sealing paper, PTFE films, or small silicone gaskets in A4 or A3 size. They are flexible and practical, and can realize “cutting immediately after startup”.

But when you want to cut materials such as Viton rubber, nitrile rubber (NBR), and EPDM sheets, this mini CNC gasket cutting machine is not suitable. Because its effective cutting area may not be able to hold the whole sheet.

10mm rubber is a medium-thick material with the characteristics of high elasticity, strong resilience, and high cutting resistance. Problems such as tool offset, incomplete cutting, and uneven edges are prone to occur during the cutting process. Therefore, a CNC oscillating knife cutting machine must have strong stability and powerful adsorption capacity.

Core Difficulties in Cutting Medium-Thick Rubber Materials

Rubber is a typical high-elasticity material. When the tool cuts into 10mm thick rubber, the material will produce strong elastic avoidance and extrusion. This will cause great surface friction, which is very prone to “tool jamming”, or the cut edge will become a “V-shaped” bevel, seriously affecting the sealing tolerance of flange gaskets.

Requirements of Medium-Thick Rubber for Equipment Rigidity and Stability

To overcome the cutting resistance of 10mm rubber, the machine tool must have extremely high structural rigidity and stability. If the frame is too thin and light (like many cheap 1000×1000mm advertising engraving machines on the market), the machine body will shake violently when the tool head turns at high speed, which will cause jagged ripples on the gasket edge, and even break the hard alloy tungsten steel blade.

In the CNC cutting of high-thickness elastic materials, cutting mechanics analysis is crucial to ensure processing accuracy. Studies show that the use of Vibration-Assisted Cutting can maintain periodic contact and separation between the tool and the material, thereby greatly reducing the friction coefficient, reducing the macroscopic cutting resistance by up to 60%, and effectively suppressing the elastic deformation of thick materials and tool wear. Relevant research results can be found in Springer journal papers such as “Experimental investigation of cutting forces and edge quality in high-frequency oscillating knife cutting of soft polymers”.

Requirements for the Adsorption System

When the blade pushes strongly through thick rubber, it generates huge lateral thrust. This requires the machine tool to be equipped with a high-power vacuum turbo fan (usually more than 5.5kW). The Trustercnc CNC oscillating knife cutting machine is equipped with a 12KW vacuum pump, which can firmly “adsorb” the 10mm thick heavy rubber sheet on the worktable to prevent material shifting.

Never think that you only cut small parts and do not need a large worktable, as long as it can cut. If you think so, you may encounter many unexpected things in actual cutting production later, such as being unable to handle materials that exceed the machine’s worktable.

Ignoring the “Standard Width (1200mm)” of Industrial Rubber Sheets

Whether it is nitrile rubber (NBR), EPDM, or silicone, the supply chain standards of the global rubber manufacturing industry are very unified. The standard factory width of most industrial rubber coils or whole sheets is usually 1200mm (1.2 meters) or 1220mm (4 feet). If you purchase a CNC gasket cutting machine with a 1000x1000mm worktable, these materials will exceed the width of the machine’s working area, which is a very tricky problem.

Needing “Secondary Manual Cutting” of Materials and Massive Material Waste

If your machine table is only 1000mm, facing 1.2-meter-wide materials, you must arrange workers to cut off more than 20 centimeters from the whole roll of materials with a utility knife or cutting machine every time you load materials.

These 200mm-wide rubber strips that are cut off are often too narrow to be used for subsequent typesetting and become waste. Over the years, this “secondary manual cutting” not only consumes a lot of labor time, but sometimes the waste of raw materials as high as 16% or more is far more valuable than the money you saved by buying a small machine.

To completely solve the contradiction between “small workshops cannot fit large machines” and “too small machines cannot hold standard materials”, the Trustercnc engineering R&D team specially launched the TO-1313 fixed-table cutting machine (effective working area 1300x1300mm). It meets the needs of many customers with small sites who can also cut standard-sized materials.

Perfectly Compatible with 1.2-Meter Standard Rubber Coils, Realizing “Whole-Sheet Direct Cutting”

The 1300x1300mm effective worktable can easily lay flat standard industrial rubber sheets with a width of 1200mm or 1220mm. The purchased rubber sheets do not need any manual pre-treatment. Workers only need to directly lay the whole purchased material on the worktable, turn on vacuum adsorption, and start cutting with one click. It not only saves cutting labor but also makes full use of the nesting software.

Maintaining a Compact Body Design, Still the Footprint of a “Small Machine Tool”

Although the cutting stroke is larger than that of 1000x1000mm, through the compact optimization of the body structure by our engineers, the actual floor area of the whole machine is still kept to a minimum.

Total machine width (from moving beam to drag chain): 2000mm

Total machine height (from tool head to feet): 1310mm

Equipped with Nesting Software to Boost Rubber Utilization to Over 90%

The larger the table, the more room the algorithm of the nesting software can play. By seamlessly importing CAD drawings, the software can nest large and small gaskets tightly on the whole 1.2-meter-wide sheet (even insert small gaskets into the waste holes of large gaskets).

In the CNC nesting of two-dimensional irregular shapes (True Shape), the nesting system based on advanced heuristic algorithms plays a decisive role in improving material utilization. Studies show that the use of advanced automatic nesting algorithms (such as simulated annealing or genetic algorithms) can increase the utilization rate of whole-sheet raw materials by an average of 15% to 20%, significantly reducing the loss of high-value materials.

Relevant research results can be found in Elsevier journal papers such as “A heuristic algorithm for the two-dimensional irregular bin packing problem” and “Optimization of 2D irregular shape nesting for CNC cutting using genetic algorithms”.

Although the Trustercnc TO-1313 CNC gasket cutting machine is a small CNC cutting device, both the software (control system) and hardware (bed, guide rails, racks, electrical components) have the same quality and functions as the standard models. The only difference is that the effective working area is smaller than the standard 1625 (1600 × 2500mm) model.

Integrated Heavy-Duty Welded Bed: Resists the Huge Lateral Cutting Resistance Generated by 10mm Rubber

The TO-1313 abandons the aluminum profile assembly structure commonly used in low-end equipment, and adopts an integrated seamless welded heavy-duty thick-walled carbon steel bed, which has been precision processed by a large gantry milling machine and stress relief treatment.

When the machine cuts 10mm thick rubber at an extremely fast speed, the tool head will generate huge lateral reaction force. The heavy-duty bed can ensure the machine body is extremely stable, completely eliminate resonance and shaking of the machine, and fully guarantee cutting accuracy.

Aviation Aluminum Micro-Porous Honeycomb Table and Powerful Vacuum Adsorption System

The biggest problem in cutting 10mm rubber is “material shifting”. The TO-1313 is equipped with a 12KW multi-zone independently controlled turbo vacuum pump and an aviation aluminum micro-porous honeycomb table. It can generate huge negative pressure and firmly fix the 10mm thick heavy rubber sheet on the worktable through the breathable felt.

You can also independently open the valves in the area where the material is located to concentrate the negative pressure, ensuring that the material never moves even when cutting tiny gaskets, and completely eliminating material displacement during cutting.

Imported Servo Drive and Linear Guide Rails: Ensure Extreme Precision of Tiny Gaskets

The motion control system determines the tolerance of gasket holes. The Trustercnc TO-1313 is equipped with imported high-torque AC servo motors (Panasonic servo motors) as standard, matched with HIWIN high-precision linear guide rails and precision gear racks. Closed-loop control ensures that the trajectory of the tool head traveling in thick rubber is absolutely smooth, and the tolerance is stably controlled within ± 0.1mm.

Let’s use actual data to compare why choosing 1300x1300mm is more cost-effective than choosing 1000 × 1000mm.

Effective Cutting Area Comparison

1000×1000 model: To fit the machine, you have to cut 1200mm into 1000mm, and you can only put 1 square meter of material at most each time.

1313 model: You can directly put 1200mm wide and 1300mm long sheets, cutting 1.56 square meters at one time, and the single typesetting capacity is increased by more than 50%.

Material Utilization Comparison

1000×1000 model: The 200mm leftover material cut off directly becomes waste, and the initial material waste rate is as high as 16.6%.

1313 model: 100% of the material is used for nesting software, matched with common-line cutting, and the comprehensive utilization rate can reach more than 90%.

Take our Portuguese customer as an example. Since he only cuts small gaskets, he initially insisted that we customize a machine with a 1000 × 1000mm worktable for him. However, after communication between our engineers and him, we finally recommended him to purchase our TO-1313 CNC oscillating knife gasket cutting machine. Later, he followed our advice. After receiving the machine and using it for a period of time, he gave us feedback that he was very satisfied with this TO-1313 CNC oscillating knife gasket cutting machine.

Analysis of the Customer’s Initial Requirements

The customer had very limited site space, and his main business was to provide small-batch customized NBR (nitrile rubber) flange gaskets for local auto repair shops. He thought a 1000x1000mm machine was enough to handle his small orders.

Equipment Selection Comparison Process

Our sales staff did not rush to quote, but asked about the specifications of rubber materials he purchased daily, and communicated with our engineers. Sure enough, the width of all NBR coils he purchased was the standard 1200mm. After explaining to him in detail the cost loss of “manual pre-cutting” and comparing the almost similar floor area of the 1000x1000mm and Trustercnc TO-1313, he finally decisively chose the 1313 model.

Actual Feedback After Use (Efficiency/Cost)

Half a year after the equipment was put into operation, the customer feedback: The wide table of the TO-1313 CNC oscillating knife gasket cutting machine allowed him to directly place the whole rubber sheet on the table for “whole-sheet nesting cutting”.

It not only saved one labor post for cutting materials, but also the powerful oscillating knife cut 10mm rubber with extremely vertical and clean edges. He earned nearly 1000 euros more in net profit every month just from the saved rubber leftover materials.

Is the price of the Trustercnc TO-1313 model much more expensive than the 1000x1000mm machine?

The price of the 1313 fixed-table model + one oscillating knife is about 8,500 US dollars. On the surface, the table of the 1313 model is about 69% larger than that of the 1000×1000 model (1.69 square meters vs. 1.0 square meter), but the price difference is not big, usually only about 10% – 15% higher.

Because the core costs of CNC cutting machines lie in the “CNC system, servo motor, oscillating knife head, and mainboard”, and these core components are exactly the same on the two models. The only difference is that the 1313 model has more bed material cost than the 1000x1000mm. From the perspective of Return on Investment (ROI), the 1313 model is very cost-effective.

Will the blade break easily when cutting 10mm thick hard rubber?

Whether the blade breaks easily depends not only on the blade material, but also on the rigidity of the machine tool, the cutting mode, and the operator’s skills.

Trustercnc uses a 400W high-power high-frequency servo oscillating knife. At the same time, we recommend using a special straight-edge wide blade of hard alloy tungsten steel with a thickness of 1mm or even 1.5mm, and a cutting speed of 130mm/s. Such a blade can be used for 7-10 days.

If the raw material I buy is 1 meter wide and placed on the 1.3-meter-wide vacuum table, the edge cannot be adsorbed and air leaks. What should I do?

The aviation aluminum honeycomb table of the Trustercnc TO-1313 model is equipped with independent air control valves below (usually divided into 4 to 8 independent adsorption zones). When your rubber material is only 1000mm wide, you only need to close the adsorption valves in the areas not covered by the material.

In this way, all the powerful turbo negative pressure will be concentrated in the central area where the material is located, not only will there be no air leakage, but the adsorption force will become even stronger. In addition, you can also cover the rubber material with ordinary plastic film to form a more closed space.

Besides cutting 10mm thick hard rubber, can this machine cut ultra-thin 0.5mm soft silicone or paper gaskets?

Absolutely yes.

When you need to cut 10mm thick rubber, you use the pneumatic/electric oscillating knife module; when you receive an order for 0.5mm film or paper gaskets, continuing to use the oscillating knife may break the film. At this time, you only need a few seconds to quickly replace the tool module with the “Drag Knife” module.

The drag knife does not vibrate and quickly and smoothly “cuts” the material on the table by the extreme sharpness of the tool tip. One machine, two modes, perfectly covers all non-metallic sealing materials from 0.5mm to 10mm+.

Some special flange gaskets we process need holes in the middle. Can the machine cut edges and punch holes at one time?

Absolutely no problem. All Trustercnc CNC oscillating knife cutting machines are equipped with a modular tool head system, which can completely cut edges while punching holes.

You can choose a punching tool for the Trustercnc TO-1313 model. The “oscillating knife” and “punching tool” can be installed on the tool head at the same time. Set their respective parameters and assign their respective tasks in the intelligent cutting system.

The machine will first punch perfect round bolt holes instantly with the puncher, and then automatically switch to the oscillating knife to cut the outer contour of the gasket. The whole process is done in one go without manual intervention, with high efficiency and good product consistency.

Does such a small CNC oscillating knife gasket cutting machine also need regular maintenance?

Yes. Good daily maintenance can greatly extend the service life of the machine.

Pay attention to the following three points for daily maintenance:

Guide rail lubrication: Regularly (usually weekly) use an air gun to clean the dust on the gear racks and linear guide rails, and add ordinary industrial lubricating oil for lubrication.

Breathable felt table: The gray breathable felt on the table is a consumable part, used to protect the tool tip from touching the aluminum base. It generally needs to be replaced every 6-12 months according to your cutting frequency.

Air source filtration: If you use a pneumatic knife, please ensure that the compressed air entering the machine is dry. Just regularly drain the water in the air compressor filter. This can ensure the service life of the machine is more than ten years, even up to 15 years.

How long does it usually take from placing an order to the equipment arriving at our factory?

It depends on the specific configuration you need and the country/region you are in.

Usually, we will arrange the factory for production immediately after receiving the customer’s order. The entire cycle from production to completion of testing is about 15-25 working days. If you are in Europe (like this Portuguese customer), the sea transportation time is about 30-40 days.

We will provide you with a full set of packing lists, CE certification documents, machine operation manuals, and assist your customs clearance agent. After the goods arrive, we will guide you to complete the startup assembly and cutting test within half a day through detailed video tutorials and 24-hour online engineers!
