The above is an email from a customer in Poland. His cutting requirements are relatively clear. Based on his needs, we have developed the following customized cutting solution:

2. Main tool selection (by material hardness and thickness):

Medium-thin dense materials: Standard high-frequency electric oscillating knife (EOT), speed 0–18,000 RPM, stroke 1.0–3.0 mm. Precisely cuts 1–15 mm rubber, 1–5 mm asbestos/non-asbestos (Gambit), 1–5 mm pure PTFE, 1–10 mm silicone, cork and flexible graphite gaskets.

Extra-thick or high-hard materials: Optional 400W high-power servo oscillating knife, with strong torque for cutting 1–50 mm high-hard solid rubber sheets, extra-thick industrial EVA and dense insulating hard boards.

Thick foam sealing materials: Optional high-frequency pneumatic oscillating knife (POT, 8.0 mm large stroke, air pressure 0.7 MPa). Penetrates and cuts 10–50 mm EVA foam, 10–30 mm EPE pearl cotton, 10–25 mm silicone foam gaskets and 20–40 mm compressed wool felt.

Fixing method: Matched with a zoned vacuum adsorption system (negative pressure ≤−30 kPa). Center-to-center tolerance of bolt holes for simple flange outer rings and complex porous gaskets is stable within ±0.1 mm, section verticality tolerance ≤±0.15 mm. The entire process requires no molds, no water and no oil contamination.

Material saving: Equipped with Trustercnc self-developed automatic gasket nesting software.

Rubber and non-metallic sealing materials share common characteristics: wide variety, large thickness range, and many materials have elasticity, flexibility or fiber structures. Gaskets themselves often have inner holes, outer contours, bolt holes, notches and sharp corners. Traditional processing methods (such as manual stamping or outsourced metal die making) are not only inefficient and slow, but also struggle to adapt to the production rhythm of multi-variety, small-batch and tight delivery customized orders.

The advantage of the CNC oscillating knife gasket cutting machine lies in combining digital drawings with mechanical cutting: first define materials and tools, then generate tool paths according to CAD contours, and finally fix the sheet via vacuum adsorption and complete cutting.

What Are Common Processing Difficulties for Rubber Gaskets?

When processing 1–5 mm and thicker pure rubber (such as natural rubber NR, nitrile rubber NBR, EPDM, fluororubber FKM), the following problems are often encountered:

1. Elastic compression deformation (beveled / mushroom edge): Rubber flows and yields horizontally when subjected to vertical compression. If a plain tool is used for one-way push cutting, the material is cut in a compressed state. After the external force is removed and rebounds, the cut edge immediately shows a “reverse bevel” wider at the top and narrower at the bottom, causing sealing surface distortion during installation.

2. Friction heating causing melting and tool sticking: High-speed dry friction between rubber and the tool side wall causes the temperature to rise rapidly above 150°C. Plasticizers and vulcanizates in rubber precipitate out, coking into black sticky residue on the blade surface.

3. Small bolt hole shrinkage from pulling: Rubber is stretched and cut under traction, and after rebound the hole diameter shrinks by 0.5–1.0 mm compared to design size, making it impossible to align with flange bolts.

Why Does Flexible Sealing Material Cutting Require Stable Material Fixation?

Flexible sealing materials (especially low-hardness rubber, silicone sheets and open-cell micro-foam gaskets) differ from rigid components such as wood or aluminum sheets. When the spindle carries the blade forward at 80 mm/s, the tool applies alternating three-dimensional shear loads to the material.

If the worktable lacks strong vertical hold-down, the material will produce sliding creep and slight wrinkling on a micro scale. Even a 0.2 mm micro horizontal displacement will completely throw off concentricity between hole positions and outer contours when cutting complex porous gaskets, leading to serious gas and oil leakage during pipeline assembly.

How Does a CNC Oscillating Knife Gasket Cutting Machine Process Round, Rectangular and Complex Shaped Gaskets?

The cutting mechanism of a CNC oscillating knife is high-frequency vertical pulse shearing.

Arcs and straight lines: The high-order interpolation controller inside the system controls the tool head to perform trajectory synthesis motion in the XY plane in real time.

Rotary C-axis (yaw axis): The tool head integrates a fourth-axis servo system. Whether the shape is a standard circle, ellipse, racetrack or a heat exchanger gasket with dense labyrinth sealing ribs, the control system drives the blade normal to always align with the part contour tangent in real time, avoiding any torsional extrusion from the blade side.

How Does a CNC Oscillating Knife Complete Processing from CAD Drawing to Finished Gasket?

1. Drawing import: Drag DXF or DWG format gasket vector drawings drawn by engineers directly into CAM software.

2. Parameter association: The software automatically identifies inner holes and outer contours, and automatically recalls cutting speed, vibration frequency and cutting depth for the corresponding material from the material library.

3. Automatic nesting: The software performs part nesting to maximize packing density.

4. One-click cutting: Turn on zoned vacuum adsorption to fix the material, start the machine with one click, and produce finished gaskets accurately in seconds to minutes.

How Thick Can Rubber Gaskets Be Cut?

Electric oscillating knife (EOT) cutting capacity: Based on actual cutting tests, the Trustercnc electric oscillating knife can stably cut 1–15 mm industrial rubber sheets of common hardness (Shore A 50°–75°). For the customer’s requirement of 5mm rubber sheets, EOT can handle it easily.

Extra-thick rubber breakthrough (400W servo knife): For extra-thick high-damping heavy-duty rubber pads 15–50 mm thick, ordinary electric knives are prone to stall due to limited torque and must be switched to a 400W high-power servo knife for rigid heavy cutting.

What Tools Are Suitable for Silicone, Cork and Graphite Gaskets?

Solid and foamed silicone (1–10 mm): Silicone is characterized by high viscosity and fast rebound. It is suitable to use an EOT electric oscillating knife with a 30° ultra-fine grain tungsten carbide blade. High-frequency impact produces a mirror-smooth silicone cut.

Cork and cork-rubber gaskets: Cork particles are prone to peel under strong shear. Must be equipped with a high-frequency oscillating knife with micro-wave ground blades, cutting cork fibers instantly at extremely high cutting line speed to protect edges from particle loss.

Expanded flexible graphite sheets (pure graphite or with 0.1mm tinplate inserts): Graphite is extremely brittle. Suitable for pure cold cutting with a small-stroke (1.0–1.5 mm) EOT electric oscillating knife, no chipping or powdering on the cut.

How Should Cutting Methods Be Selected for Asbestos and Non-Asbestos Gaskets?

EOT can be used for 1–5 mm asbestos and related thin sealing materials.

For non-asbestos gasket materials, an EOT high-frequency electric oscillating knife with 0.63 mm or 1.0 mm extra-thick rigid blades is used. When cutting compressed non-asbestos fiber sealing sheets containing high-strength aramid fibers and inorganic fillers, the strong abrasiveness of the composite causes rapid flank wear.

Studies show that submicron tungsten carbide grain tools with surface anti-stick coatings can greatly extend tool life and maintain edge smoothness. Relevant research can be found in Elsevier journal papers such as “Abrasive wear behavior of cutting tools during machining of fiber-reinforced polymer composites”, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.wear.2018.12.015

What Are the Tool and Cutting Parameter Requirements for PTFE Gaskets?

Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) has extremely strong “self-lubrication” and “cold flow (compression creep)”:

Blade geometry requirements: Must use sharp double-edged micro-ground blades with a 30° tip angle, minimizing cutting thrust to prevent slipping on PTFE surfaces.

Down-pressure control: Presser foot pressure must be micro-adjusted (pre-compression ≤0.5mm) to avoid scuff marks on smooth PTFE surfaces.

Can Paper Gaskets, Cork-Rubber and Carbon Fiber Gaskets Be Processed with CNC Oscillating Knives?

Absolutely.

Insulating paper and fish paper gaskets (0.2–1.5 mm): Oscillating knife cutting produces no burrs, and does not cause edge blackening and carbonization like laser machines.

Cork-rubber composite gaskets: Vibrating micro-strokes cut the rubber matrix without dislodging cork particles.

High-strength carbon fiber gaskets: Micro-punching with tungsten carbide alloy blades effectively prevents edge delamination of high-modulus carbon fiber bundles.

How to Confirm Machine Compatibility for Specialty Gasket Sheets Such as Gambit?

Confirm hardness and filler ratio: First confirm whether its density is between 1.7–2.0 g/cm³.

Sample cut for penetration verification: Perform actual test cutting on a 1625 table using an EOT electric oscillating knife. Check whether the cutting depth reaches 100% penetration through the sheet thickness, and check micro-wear on the flank of a 45° tungsten carbide blade after 50 meters of continuous cutting, to finalize production feed speed.

ptfe gasket

Why Is 1–15mm Rubber Suitable for Electric Oscillating Knife EOT?

Sufficient micro-shear line speed: EOT operates at a high frequency of 18,000 RPM via a micro brushless servo motor. For 1–15 mm solid rubber sheets, small strokes (1.5–3.0 mm) keep the blade in continuous high-speed impact in extremely narrow micro-gaps, with over 250 micro-cuts per second per tooth.

Effectively avoids lateral extrusion deformation: Due to the extremely small single punch displacement, rubber molecular chains are cut before they can produce macroscopic lateral flow as the blade advances. The cut section remains vertical and flat, especially easy for 1–5 mm thick rubber.

How to Select Blades for 1–5mm Asbestos and PTFE Gaskets?

Asbestos/non-asbestos sheets (1–5 mm): Select reinforced tungsten carbide blades with 45° tip angle and 0.63 mm or 1.0 mm thickness. The 45° obtuse tip has extremely high impact chipping resistance and can easily crush hard inorganic mineral particles inside the sheet.

PTFE sheets (1–5 mm): Select 30° sharp-angle micro-ground long bevel blades. Ultra-thin sharp edges penetrate dense fluoroplastics with minimal penetration resistance, eliminating slip deviation of the tip on the material surface.

How to Configure Tools for 1–10mm Silicone, Cork and Graphite Gaskets?

Use EOT electric oscillating knife: vibration frequency set to 15,000 RPM.

Blade thickness: use 0.63 mm grade blades.

Coating process: use blades with Teflon or DLC (diamond-like carbon) surface nano-treatment, completely eliminating tool sticking resistance of oil-containing silicone and preventing friction heating from brittle graphite powder adhering to the blade wall.

When Do Foam Sealing Materials Above 10mm Need High-Frequency Pneumatic Knife POT?

When processing microcellular foam materials above 10 mm thick, ordinary electric knives have too short strokes (only 1–3 mm). The tip cannot fully “open” the kerf at depth, and trapped air inside pores forms local high-pressure air cushions that hinder chip removal and cutting.

High-frequency pneumatic knife (POT): Driven by 0.7 MPa compressed air, with a mechanical stroke of 10.0 mm. The large stroke instantly splits deep pores up and down, transferring cutting force from the surface all the way to the bottom breathable felt, giving clean cuts on foam gaskets above 10 mm.

Why Are 10–50mm EVA Foam Gaskets Suitable for Pneumatic Knives?

Large stroke eliminates damping friction: Industrial EVA has extremely strong closed-cell resilience. A thickness of 30–50 mm means the tool sides withstand huge bilateral elastic compression. The 10.0 mm reciprocating stroke of the high-frequency pneumatic knife creates periodic air relief gaps on both sides of the tool body, blocking friction heat accumulation.

Excellent penetration: Matched with special double-edged deep serrated long blades, micro-teeth firmly grip cross-linked foam walls and force through, completely solving bottom drawing and incomplete cutting.

When to Consider 400W Servo Knife for 1–50mm Rubber and Other Thick or Hard Materials?

For heavy solid wear-resistant rubber with Shore hardness as high as 85A–95A, or extra-thick dense hard rubber 15 mm to 50 mm thick, micro electric tool heads will overheat and stall due to excessive lateral cutting resistance, and pneumatic knives will also lose amplitude as piston thrust is offset by high-hardness rubber.

Core advantages of 400W high-power servo knife: Equipped with a 400W pure AC digital servo motor and heavy-duty rigid eccentric mechanism, output torque is several times that of ordinary electric knives. The tool cuts high-hard materials with strong rigid power, with no blade deflection. It is an effective tool for cutting extra-thick high-hard sealing materials.

What Gasket Materials Are EOT Electric Oscillating Knives Suitable For?

EOT is electrically driven, with very high frequency but short stroke. Suitable for “dense, medium-thin, high surface cleanliness” materials. Ideal for cutting 1–15 mm rubber, 1–5 mm Gambit non-asbestos fiber sheets, pure PTFE sheets, flexible graphite sheets, fish paper and 1–10 mm silicone gaskets.

What Thick Sealing and Foam Materials Are POT High-Frequency Pneumatic Knives Suitable For?

POT is driven by compressed air and has an extra-long stroke of 10.0 mm. Effectively handles “large thickness, low density, porous, high friction damping” materials. Specially for cutting 10–50 mm EVA foam gaskets, 10–30 mm EPE packaging buffer liners, 10–25 mm silicone foam gaskets and 20–40 mm high-density compressed industrial wool felt pads.

What Thick or Hard Materials Are 400W High-Power Servo Knives Suitable For?

The 400W high-power servo knife is a heavy-duty cutting tool, mainly for“high hardness, high damping, heavy thick plates”. Specially for continuous processing of 1–50 mm dense hard rubber with Shore hardness above 80A, extra-thick dense EVA foam hard boards, hard insulating fiberboard and composite thick boards, with extremely high overload impact resistance.

What Are the Differences Between the Three Tools in Cutting Thickness, Material Hardness and Cutting Method?

Thickness: EOT focuses on below 15 mm; POT focuses on 10–50 mm porous soft materials; 400W servo knife focuses on 1–50 mm dense hard materials.

Hardness: For high-hardness materials, 400W servo knife has the highest torque, followed by EOT; POT is not suitable for cutting high-hardness sheets (excessive stroke causes piston rebound).

Method: EOT is high-frequency micro-cutting; POT is deep-stroke large-impact cutting; 400W servo knife is strong rigid vertical cutting.

Can One CNC Oscillating Knife Gasket Cutting Machine Be Equipped with Multiple Tools?

Absolutely. This is the biggest advantage of CNC oscillating knife cutting machines.

The Trustercnc 1625 CNC oscillating knife gasket cutting machine can be equipped with a modular integrated tool head system. The same gantry beam supports two or more independently lifting Z-axis slides:

For example: Station A installs EOT electric oscillating knife (cuts non-asbestos and thin rubber), Station B installs POT pneumatic oscillating knife (cuts thick foam gaskets), or adds a pneumatic punch tool.

During production, the control software automatically switches between tools according to graphic instructions, no manual tool change downtime.

For gasket processing, no single technology is“absolutely better”. It should be judged according to production volume, shape change, material thickness and edge requirements. The biggest feature of CNC oscillating knives is digitalization, no fixed dies per contour, and suitability for non-metallic flexible sheets.

graphite gasket

What Is the Difference Between CNC Oscillating Knives and Traditional Die Cutting Machines?

Production preparation cycle: Die cutting machines require new metal dies for every product change (takes 2–3 days, die cost ~$100–$500). CNC oscillating knives only need CAD vector drawings, zero die cost, product changeover in 3 seconds.

Workpiece edge quality: Mechanical press stamping causes severe lateral forced expansion on 5mm rubber, cut surfaces generally concave; oscillating knife vertical high-frequency cold cutting produces standard 90° straight vertical cuts.

Why Are Complex Shaped Gaskets Not Always Suitable for Fixed Dies?

Narrow ribs stick to dies: Many heat exchanger or complex pump gaskets have dense reinforcing ribs (only 2–4 mm wide) and dense tiny bolt holes. During die stamping, rubber easily gets stuck in metal die grooves, causing ejection problems, slowing production or damaging the die.

Absolute freedom of single-blade tracing: Oscillating knives form point-by-point via tip trajectory interpolation. No matter how dense the holes or twisted the shape, the blade moves freely, no demolding issues.

What Is the Difference Between CNC Oscillating Knives and Waterjet Cutting for Sealing Materials?

Water penetration and material damage: Waterjet cutting involves 300 MPa high-pressure water jets. Porous foam, flexible graphite and compressed non-asbestos sheets have strong water absorption capillary effects, swelling, delaminating and degrading when wet. CNC oscillating knives are pure cold dry cutting, keeping sealing materials absolutely dry.

Huge operating cost difference: Waterjet high-pressure pumps are 30–37 kW and consume garnet continuously. Total power of oscillating knife (including vacuum fan) is only 11–13 kW, no consumables. Hourly processing cost is about 20% of waterjet.

What Is the Difference Between Plotter Cutters and Industrial-Grade CNC Oscillating Knives?

Frame rigidity and cutting force: Plotters use lightweight aluminum profiles and belt drive, only lateral drag cutting, no vertical high-frequency stroke power.

Material processing capability: Plotters can only process thin cardboard or self-adhesive films below 0.5 mm. Above 1mm tough rubber or dense Gambit non-asbestos sheets, plotters lose steps, belt slip or burn out. Industrial oscillating knives weigh nearly 2 tons, designed for dense hard materials.

Which Processing Method Is More Flexible for Frequent Gasket Shape Changes?

Definitely the CNC oscillating knife gasket cutting machine. If producing round gaskets today, shaped gaskets with multiple bolt holes tomorrow, and another flange profile the day after, digital files directly change the cutting path. This is why oscillating knives are especially suitable for multi-variety, small-batch and custom gasket production.

Bigger is not always better. It should be determined by maximum raw material size, finished part size, nesting method and actual production space. For such rubber and sealing sheet processing, Trustercnc provides the standard 1625 fixed table, i.e. 1600×2500 mm working area. This size covers most industrial sealing sheet single-sheet processing needs while leaving enough room for multi-part nesting. If you have larger material cutting requirements, Trustercnc can also customize machine dimensions.

square non asbestos gasket

Why Is the Standard 1625 Fixed Table Suitable for Gasket Sheet Processing?

Best carrier for international standard sheets: European Gambit, Austrian Frenzelit, German Klinger all use 1500 mm width as industry standard.

1625 model dimensions: Effective cutting area is 1600 mm wide × 2500 mm long. The 1600 mm net width leaves 50 mm safety clamping and edge clearance on each side for 1.5 m large sheets. The 2500 mm length perfectly accommodates full sheets of 2.0 m to 2.4 m, achieving “original sheet straight-on, full sheet full cut”.

What Sizes of Sealing Sheets Can Be Processed in a 1600×2500mm Working Area?

Full-size standard large sheets:

  1500 mm×1500 mm standard square non-asbestos / graphite sheets

1500 mm×2000 mm or 1500 mm×2400 mm engineering large sheets

  1200 mm×1200 mm and 1000 mm×1500 mm medium sheets

Long roll sectioning: For 1.2–1.5 m wide rubber rolls, sections can be manually pulled out and cut on the 2.5 m long worktable, extremely versatile.

What Worktable Size to Consider for Nesting Multiple Gaskets on One Sheet?

On a large 1600×2500 mm table, CAM software can nest dozens or even hundreds of gaskets of different sizes on a full 1.5×2.0 m sheet (e.g. waste round holes in large gaskets automatically nest small gaskets or washers). The large table provides huge optimization space for advanced nesting algorithms, and overall material utilization can be maximized to over 90%.

Why Are Fixed Tables Suitable for Rubber and Sealing Sheet Processing?

Rubber and sealing sheets are usually full sheets, not continuous rolls, so fixed tables provide stable support and vacuum adsorption.

If customers mainly process standard sealing sheets rather than continuous rolls, fixed tables usually match actual production methods better and save machine costs.

The main function of the vacuum adsorption system is to keep the material stable during tool movement. Especially for flexible materials such as rubber, silicone and foam, if material moves, final product dimensions may still deviate even if the tool itself is accurately positioned. The vacuum system also affects whether small parts stay stable on the worktable.

silicone gasket

Why Do Rubber Sheets Easily Move or Deform During Cutting?

In tool cutting of rubber and high-elastic polymer sealing materials, high elastic deformation and viscoelastic hysteresis directly affect cut surface verticality and friction heat accumulation. Studies show that optimizing blade geometry and using high-frequency vibrating micro-stroke cutting can significantly reduce lateral cutting resistance and effectively suppress section mushrooming caused by elastic rebound. Relevant research: “Mechanisms of cutting elastomeric materials with blade tools”, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.triboint.2017.05.012

Lateral friction drag: When the blade advances at 100 mm/s, contact friction between blade side and high-damping rubber wall is inevitable. This horizontal force constantly tries to push rubber out of position.

Micro rebound wave propagation: The oscillating knife impacts up and down at ten-thousand frequency, creating alternating elastic vibration waves inside rubber. If bottom adsorption is poor, material micro-jumps cause rough cuts.

How Does Vacuum Adsorption Help Fix Flexible Sealing Materials?

The Trustercnc 1625 fixed-table CNC oscillating knife gasket cutting machine is equipped with 7.5 kW to 11 kW high-negative-pressure turbine suction fans.

Atmospheric pressure conversion: The fan strongly evacuates air below the table, creating high negative pressure of -28 kPa to -35 kPa in table honeycomb holes. Standard atmospheric pressure (~101.3 kPa) presses evenly vertically on the sealing sheet surface.

Tons of hold-down force: On a full 1.5×2.0 m sheet, this equals over 3 tons of uniform vertical compression force, holding the sheet tightly to the base as if welded, eliminating all lateral shift.

How to Adjust Adsorption Methods for Different Thicknesses of Rubber and Sealing Sheets?

Refer to the following:

1. Thin dense materials (1–3 mm rubber, PTFE, graphite): Use direct bare vacuum, close idle zone valves to concentrate airflow.

2. Thick heavy sheets (5–10 mm rubber, thick hard non-asbestos): Require deeper static vacuum (maintained above -32 kPa) to resist high feed cutting forces.

3. Porous micro-breathable materials (EVA foam, compressed wool felt): Due to micro-leakage, cover the top surface with a 30–50 μm light PE pressure-holding film. The film blocks air infiltration into pores, restoring full negative pressure and locking fluffy materials firmly.

How to Reduce Cutting Errors When Material Surfaces Are Not Flat?

Factory sealing sheets often have slight warping (bowed sheets) during transport and storage. Two solutions:

Table matrix high-negative-pressure flattening: Place the concave side down. Strong local negative pressure instantly pulls curled edges flat against the table.

Equipped with automatic high-precision tool setter: Trustercnc CNC oscillating knife gasket cutting machines can automatically perform dense grid height mapping on the table, generating a 3D height compensation surface. The Z-axis adapts to contours during cutting, ensuring uniform cutting depth across the full sheet.

How to Avoid Gasket Dimensional Deviation Caused by Poor Material Fixation?

1. Close unused felt areas to concentrate suction.

2. Cutting order must strictly follow “inner holes first, then outer contour”, ensuring material rigidity when cutting small holes.

3. Clean vacuum line filters daily to prevent clogged filters from reducing fan suction.

The real challenge in gasket processing is usually not simple straight lines, but simultaneous inner and outer contours, many holes, many arcs, many sharp corners and frequent dimensional changes. The advantage of CNC oscillating knife gasket cutting machines is that digital tool paths are generated directly from CAD drawings.

printed non asbestos gaskets

How Are Round and Oval Gaskets Processed?

Continuous tangent following: Rotating C-axis rotates the tool head in real time with microsecond response, ensuring blade normal always coincides with arc tangent.

Smooth overlap closure: When the tool completes a full circle back to start, never lift vertically immediately. Must overlap 1.0–1.5 mm forward along the original path, then ramp out smoothly, completely eliminating tiny bumps at the joint.

How to Cut Seals with Inner Holes in One Pass?

Inner hole first topology logic: After CAM software parses vector graphics, it automatically builds parent-child processing chains. The machine first cuts all central through holes and bolt holes inside the washer.

Outer contour final shaping: Only when all internal features are finished and material is still held by the large sheet, does the tool perform the final outer edge cut. Parts are removed by hand immediately after forming. One clamping achieves 100% complete forming.

How Are Porous Gaskets and Complex Contours Processed?

For dense porous flange gaskets, Trustercnc CNC oscillating knife gasket cutting machines use high-precision short-stroke fast-step algorithms. Idle translation speed between holes can reach 800–1200 mm/s, with millisecond smooth acceleration/deceleration when entering cutting paths, making continuous processing of hundreds of tiny holes extremely compact and efficient.

What Are the Tool Requirements for Small Holes, Narrow Slots and Sharp Corners?

Very small holes (Φ≤5mm): Blade width itself prevents traversal. Requires a pneumatic rotary punch tool, punching clean vertical holes with one vertical stroke.

Narrow slots (width <4mm): Use ultra-thin 0.63 mm tungsten carbide blades to reduce side wall compression.

Sharp angles (<60°): CAM should enable lift-turn function. Blade lifts automatically at corner vertices, rotates in air, then re-enters, preventing the blade from twisting sharp corners in place.

How to Control Final Gasket Dimensions via CAD Drawings?

Kerf compensation: Blades have physical thickness (e.g. 0.63 mm). Set tool offset compensation in CAM software: inner hole trajectories automatically contract by half blade thickness, outer contours automatically offset outward by half blade thickness, ensuring physical parts match CAD theoretical design 1:1 exactly.

How Does Automatic Nesting Improve Material Utilization per Sealing Sheet?

Since Gambit, non-asbestos fiberboard and high-purity graphite sheets have high raw material costs, material utilization is a key focus. Trustercnc self-developed automatic nesting software provides two functions:

True Shape Nesting: Allows shaped gaskets to rotate freely for optimal angle within 0°–360°.

Part-in-Part nesting: Automatically places small gaskets or washers inside scrap areas of larger flange gaskets. Overall sheet material utilization increases from 70% of manual placement to 88%–93%.

Actual cutting quality mainly depends on material thickness, hardness, elasticity, blade condition, vibration parameters, cutting speed, material fixing method and tool path. Especially for elastic materials like rubber, excessive speed may reduce edge quality, while too low parameters may reduce productivity.

barley paper gasket

Why Does Material Thickness Affect Oscillating Knife Parameters?

When material thickness increases from 1 mm to 5 mm or even 15 mm, enveloping friction area between tool and material side walls increases exponentially.

Deep damping rebound: Thick materials require lower translation feed speed, giving high-frequency tips enough micro-stroke time to clear the kerf.

Speed reduction rule: Usually for every 2 mm increase in material thickness, XY feed speed should be actively reduced by 10%–15%, preventing blade bending and inclined sections.

Why Do Different Hardness and Elasticity Require Different Cutting Settings?

High-elastic soft materials (e.g. 50A soft silicone, natural rubber): Easy to compress and deform. Must maintain very high vibration frequency (18,000 RPM) and extremely sharp 30° blades, with lightest presser foot pressure (<0.5mm).

High-density hard materials (e.g. 85A nitrile, Gambit non-asbestos): High cutting resistance. Must use 45° hardened thick blades, feed speed reduced to 40–60 mm/s, ensuring single-tooth micro-shear overcomes hard aramid fibers.

What Problems Can Excessive Cutting Speed Cause?

Blade deflection: Once feed speed exceeds the micro-cutting limit, the tip at depth lags behind upper tool path, resulting in significantly smaller bottom sizes and obvious taper.

Tearing and blade breakage: Blades do not have time to vertically sever fibers, becoming lateral hard pulling. Dense tear edges appear, or expensive carbide blades break instantly.

How Does Vibration Frequency Affect Gasket Edge Quality?

Vibration frequency (F) determines the number of tip micro-cuts per unit time.

Single-stroke step control: Vf×1000=fs(60×F)

The higher the frequency, the smaller the feed per stroke (fs). Keeping frequency at maximum rated range (e.g. 15,000 RPM) compresses single-stroke displacement strictly between 0.2–0.4 mm, producing cuts as smooth as sanded finish.

Why Do Different Brands of the Same Rubber Require Different Parameters?

To reduce costs, different compounders mix varying proportions of reclaimed rubber, clay, calcium carbonate or high-wear carbon black.

Filler differences: High carbon black rubber is hard and highly abrasive; high white carbon black or pure gum formulations are highly elastic and prone to tool sticking. They may look identical but actual cutting resistance can differ by over 50%.

Why Is Actual Material Trial Cutting More Reliable Than Applying Fixed Parameters?

Because machine parameter tables only tell theoretical or empirical application ranges, not exactly the material in the customer’s hands.

The most reliable method: real material + actual thickness + real CAD product + actual tool → trial cut → measure → adjust → save parameters.

Based on years of installation, commissioning and on-site troubleshooting experience, Trustercnc engineering team has summarized seven typical engineering quality problems and operational solutions in rubber and gasket cutting.

flange gasket

What to Do About Uneven Edges After Cutting Rubber Gaskets?

Replace blade: 90% due to micro-chipping or wear passivation. Immediately replace sharp ultra-fine grain tungsten carbide blade.

Reduce speed to match frequency: Reduce feed speed by 20% appropriately, reducing single-stroke travel.

What to Do If Rubber Is Stretched or Deformed During Cutting?

First check vacuum adsorption and material flatness.

If material shifts noticeably as blade enters, increase effective adsorption area, improve sheet placement, confirm vacuum negative pressure below -28 kPa, clean clogged filters; and re-run trial cuts.

For highly elastic rubber, also consider blade sharpness and cutting speed.

What Causes Inaccurate Dimensions After Cutting Small Holes?

Tool offset: Minor mounting eccentricity between shank centerline and actual blade edge. Recalibrate tool geometry offset with tool setter.

No arc deceleration enabled: Small hole cutting speed must drop from 100 mm/s to 30–40 mm/s to eliminate centrifugal overload.

What to Check If Gaskets Are Not Fully Cut Through?

Check Z-axis over-cut compensation: Micro-adjust cutting depth parameters in software by -0.2 mm to -0.3 mm, so tip safely micro-penetrates breathable felt.

Check felt flatness: Check if table felt has deep grooves from long-term dense cutting. Replace felt promptly.

What to Do If Blades Stick to Material?

Never run too slow: Slow speed causes in-place high-frequency dry friction heating and melting. Increase feed speed to 60–80 mm/s.

Switch to Teflon-coated blades: Use special gasket blades with black anti-stick nano-coating.

What to Do About Dimensional Deviation in Complex Contour Cutting?

Enable lift-turn: Check if “lift-turn” is enabled for bends less than 90°, preventing blade from twisting material inside corners.

Check drive backlash: Check for debris in X/Y axis gearbox and helical rack meshing surfaces, re-tighten timing belt tension.

Why Does Blade Wear Affect Gasket Accuracy?

Duller blades require more force to penetrate material, which can cause material compression and edge tearing.

Therefore, blade replacement should not be judged only by “hours used”, but inspected alongside cutting quality.

For the customer’s requirements: “max 5mm rubber + Gambit specialty gasket sheets + simple and complex shapes”, the standard 1625 fixed-table CNC oscillating knife gasket cutting machine with 1600×2500 mm working area is preferred.

If mainly processing ≤5 mm rubber and common non-metallic sealing sheets, EOT is the main tool; if thick foam sealing materials are added later, POT can be added; if future needs include 1–50 mm rubber, EVA and harder materials, 400W high-power servo knife can be further considered.

Why Is 1625 Fixed Table Suitable for This Type of Gasket Sheet Processing?

The customer describes “gasket sheets”, not continuous rolls, so fixed tables better match this processing method.

Polish Gambit factory sheets are mostly 1500×1500 mm standard sheets. The 1625 model has 1600 mm net processing width and 2500 mm length. By fixing materials via vacuum adsorption, multiple gaskets can be nested and cut on full sheets according to CAD drawings.

What Tools Should Be Prioritized for ≤5mm Rubber and Common Sealing Sheets?

Tool selection: EOT high-frequency electric oscillating knife head (18,000 RPM, 3.0 mm stroke).

Dual blade configuration:

  1. For cutting 5mm rubber: 30° sharp angle, 1.0 mm thick, Teflon-coated extra-hard blade.

  2. For cutting Gambit non-asbestos sheets: 45° reinforced wear-resistant cemented carbide double-edged blade.

This combination covers over 95% of daily gasket production with extremely low power consumption and excellent section verticality.

How to Reserve Tool Configuration for Thicker Rubber in the Future?

Body structure reserve: Gantry beam clearance ≥80 mm, Z-axis servo stroke with sufficient margin.

Electrical interface reserve: Reserve independent high-power servo drive module wiring ports in electrical cabinet. If future needs include 20–50 mm extra-thick heavy-duty high-hard rubber, simply add a 400W high-power servo oscillating knife, plug-and-play.

What Tool to Add for EVA, EPE and Silicone Foam Gaskets?

Add high-frequency pneumatic oscillating knife (POT): Connect to workshop 0.7 MPa compressed air. With its 10.0 mm mechanical large stroke and long serrated blade, easily penetrates 10–50 mm foam sponge and compressed wool felt insulation pads.

Why Can Modular Tool Heads Reduce Configuration Limits from Future Material Changes?

Modular quick-change tooling architecture frees you from a single process. Cut thin rubber today, add punch head for tiny bolt holes tomorrow, add pneumatic knife for foam the day after. Truly “one machine, multiple uses”.

For 1625 fixed-table CNC gasket cutting machines, daily maintenance focuses on blades, vacuum tables, suction holes, guides and moving parts, and regular cleaning of cutting debris.

What Basic Conditions Are Required for Machine Operation?

Specific requirements depend on final configuration, but usually consider:

Suitable industrial power supply

Stable grounding

Vacuum adsorption system

Compressed air (if POT is configured)

How Should Oscillating Blades and Tools Be Inspected and Replaced?

Blade condition is recommended based on cutting quality.

Inspect for wear if:

Edges get rougher

Cutting resistance increases

Small hole dimensions change

Material is noticeably pulled

Incomplete cutting

Standard 4-step blade change:

1. Stop and power off. Use dedicated air gun to blow out graphite and non-asbestos dust from inside tool holder gaps.

2. Install new blade, ensure blade back fits firmly against tool holder locating datum to prevent deflection.

3. Use precision hex key to tighten set screw slightly (torque ~2.5 N·m). Never over-tighten and snap screw.

4. Move tool head above tool setter, perform one-click “infrared automatic depth calibration”. System automatically corrects Z-axis absolute zero.

What Installation and Technical Support Does Trustercnc Provide?

1. Machine fully CE certified. Electrical components strictly match European 400V 50Hz 3-phase 5-wire system. Wiring inside control cabinet is clearly labeled and traceable.

2. Professional technical engineering team provides one-on-one online guidance via HD video for machine unpacking, foot leveling, software installation and first-piece Gambit gasket trial cutting.

3. Standard machine supply includes full range of common tungsten carbide blades, spare felt, pneumatic fittings and filter cartridges to ensure stable production.

Is rubber cutting based on thickness or hardness? Can EOT cut 5mm thick 85A high-hardness rubber?

Hardness is often more critical than thickness. Ordinary 50A–60A soft rubber cuts easily at 10mm with EOT. But 85A–90A high-hardness solid rubber (as hard as tire tread) at 5mm has several times higher cutting resistance.

Can EOT cut it? Yes, but feed speed must be greatly reduced from the standard 80 mm/s to 30–40 mm/s, and fitted with 1.0 mm extra-thick tungsten carbide blades to prevent blade bending.

Better for mass production: If processing this 85A+ hard rubber in large volumes long-term, 400W AC servo cutter is recommended directly. High torque, strong impact, cuts at full 80 mm/s speed, motor never overheats.

Can oscillating knives cut reinforced graphite gaskets with a 0.1mm tinplate insert? Will blades break instantly?

Absolutely yes. This is one of the great advantages of CNC oscillating knives over lasers and waterjets (waterjet causes graphite to swell and delaminate; laser causes graphitization).

Blade selection criteria: Must use reinforced ultra-fine grain tungsten carbide blades with 45° tip angle and 1.0 mm thickness. Never use 30° thin tip blades — tip will chip instantly on impact with internal tinplate.

Blade life: A blade cuts ~1000m of pure graphite, but with tinplate inserts, carbide is micro-impacting steel. Blade life is usually ~100–300 meters. Keep spare blades on site. Replace when metal burrs appear at bottom cut.

Bolt holes on flange gaskets come out oval, like small ellipses. Bolts won’t fit. How to adjust for round holes?

For small holes (especially ≤15mm diameter) cutting oval, try three methods:

1. Slow down small hole cutting speed: Large outer circles can run at 100 mm/s, but small holes have small curvature radius. If C-axis angular speed can’t keep up, blade drags obliquely. Set hole speeds <15mm to 20–30 mm/s in CAM software.

2. Calibrate C-axis to tip offset (Tool Offset): 90% of oval holes are because blade edge is not perfectly aligned with tool rotation center. Recalibrate offset with automatic tool setter to <0.02 mm.

3. Add pneumatic punch tool: If gaskets have dense tiny bolt holes of only a few mm, pneumatic punching tool is recommended. Punches a clean core in 0.1 seconds, perfectly round.

Non-asbestos sheets arrive slightly curled, vacuum won’t hold flat, blade scrapes and crashes. How to fix?

European original non-asbestos sheets easily warp from pallet transport or humidity. Two solutions:

Place concave side down: Lay bowed side down on table so edges touch first.

Tape edges for air seal: After vacuum is on, if edges leak and won’t hold, apply wide tape along edges between sheet and table felt to seal leaks. Vacuum gauge jumps from -10 kPa to -30 kPa instantly. Tons of atmospheric pressure flattens bowed sheets instantly.

Cutting European Gambit aramid fiber non-asbestos sheets, blades wear very fast. Edges fuzz after two large sheets. How to extend blade life?

Gambit sheets are densely filled with high-tensile Kevlar (aramid) fibers and micro-quartz silicate fillers — heavy abrasive:

Switch to nano-coated blades: Abandon plain steel or standard tungsten carbide blades. Use TiAlN or AlCrN PVD coated ultra-hard blades. Surface micro-hardness > HV 3000, wear life doubles directly.

Don’t run too slow: Many workers run very slow at 20 mm/s, causing dry friction heating and accelerated passivation. Keep feed speed at 50–60 mm/s, each chip carries away heat, longer blade life.

Cutting pure PTFE sheets, it’s so slippery the whole sheet drifts. How to hold it still?

Pure PTFE has extremely high self-lubrication (friction coefficient only 0.04). Vacuum alone sometimes can’t resist large lateral forces:

Film covering method: Lay a thin 30μm clear stretch PE film over PTFE sheet. Film blocks air completely. Atmospheric pressure like tons of weight holds slippery PTFE firmly to felt.

Switch to 30° thin sharp blades: Sharp ultra-thin 30° blades have minimal penetration resistance, greatly reducing lateral tool thrust. Cutting becomes very stable.

Cutting cork-rubber gaskets, cork particles keep falling out, edges uneven. How to cut smooth?

Cork particle-rubber bond shear strength is uneven. Dull blades or large-stroke pushers “dig out” cork particles.

High frequency low stroke is key: Use EOT electric oscillating knife, max frequency 18,000 RPM, stroke ≤1.5 mm.

Use new double micro-ground blades: Extremely sharp edges, like a scalpel, cleanly cut cork cells microscopically instead of crushing.

Tool setter broke or cable cut. How can workers quickly adjust cutting depth manually, cutting through without damaging felt?

Use the “business card / A4 paper test method” for emergency tool setting in 30 seconds:

1. Place a sheet of ordinary A4 printer paper (~0.1 mm thick) on the table felt.

2. Manually lower Z-axis until tip just presses paper. Pull paper lightly to position where “paper moves but with noticeable friction”.

3. Zero this position as Z-axis mechanical zero (Z=0).

4. Enter sheet thickness in software (e.g. 3.0mm), plus -0.2 mm micro overcut. Tip penetrates sheet and 0.2mm into felt, cutting clean through without damaging base.
